Mass Media Campaign-2015 for Popularizing Smoke-free Policies

As part of Tobacco Control advocacy, PROGGA regularly conducts mass media campaigns on different tobacco control priority issues through broadcast and print media. Currently, PROGGA has undertaken a mass media campaign followed by the recently gazetted ‘Smoking and Tobacco Product Usage (Control) (Amendment) Rules 2015’ in Bangladesh after a long struggle. The month-long campaign starts from the day of the gazette notification and particularly aims at popularizing the provisions of smoke-free provisions (public places and public transports) of the law among stakeholders (i.e. mass people, government officials, policymakers and law enforcers) and to foster the overall implementation process of the TC law across the country.

Under the campaign, PROGGA will carry out a newspaper advertisement in the first page and month-long short messages in the leading newspaper – The Daily Prothom Alo. Besides, two roundtables will be organized with the Daily Prothom Alo and the Daily Star; and arrange eight TV talk shows with four popular private TV channels which will be followed by eight special reports.
